Why does my producer get the "Record not found at NIPR" error when registering in SureLC?

Jim Friend -

So I have a producer trying to register in SureLC and he/she inputs their SSN and Last Name, but get an error that says "Record not found at NIPR: Please verify your information". It looks like this. Why is this happening?

Answer: There are generally two reasons this happens.

1. The SSN and/or Last Name on file at NIPR (National Insurance Producer Registry) is wrong. The producer will want to check with NIPR and get it corrected. Once corrected, the producer will be able to register in SureLC as normal.

2. The most common reason this happens is that the producer is newly licensed and NIPR has not issued the producer his/her NPN (National Producer Number). It typically takes 3 to 5 business days for the state DOI to report the new license information to NIPR. Once NIPR gets the info and assigns the producer a NPN, the producer will be able to register in SureLC as normal.

EXAMPLE: A producer just got their insurance license yesterday. You send the producer a link to your SureLC portal today and they try and register. Will not work. We are in the 3 to 5 business day window and NIPR has not issued the NPN yet.

HINT: You can check to see if the producer has been issued a NPN by searching NIPR. Use the link below and input the producers SSN and Last Name.
