How do I set up a Solicitor (License Only Agent) in SureLC? And who they Solicit for?

Chelsie Gaspard -

What is a Solicitor?

  • Also known as a License Only Agent or LOA.
  • A Solicitor works for an Agency or another Producer.  Also known as the Producer's Up-line.
  • A Solicitor assigns all commissions to their Up-line.  They are not paid directly by carriers.

How do I set up a Solicitor in SureLC?

  • Start at the TOP with the Producers Direct Up-line. Make sure the Up-line Agency the Solicitor works for is set up in SureLC.
  • The Up-line must select Has Solicitors on their DBA tab for this Agency to have Producers set up underneath them in the hierarchy structure.
  • Go to Producers and select the Up-Line Agency Principal's profile.
  • Select the DBA tab and ensure Has Solicitors is selected.

  • Now you can set up the Solicitor associated with the Agency correctly.
    • Go to Producers from the navigation menu and open the Solicitor (LOA) Producer profile.
    • In the DBA tab for the Solicitor, select Licensed Only Agent from the dropdown menu.
    • A field Solicitor For will appear to select the producer's Up-line. This is who the producer solicits for.

Common Questions:

This carrier has specific Solicitor (LOA) forms that are not populating.

  • Check the DBA settings for the Solicitor
  • Ensure Licensed Only Agent is selected.

Why isn't the Assignment of Commissions form populating?

  • Check the DBA settings for the Solicitor
  • Ensure Licensed Only Agent is selected.

Why isn't the up-line signature for the Agency my Producer solicits for populating on the forms?

  • Check the DBA settings for the Solicitor
  • Verify the correct Up-line is selected in the Solicitor For drop-down.
  • Check the signature for the upline within their producer profile.

What happens if I don't select an Up-line from the drop-down menu and leave it with the default option, "License Only Agent"?

  • You'll see an error message the 'Soliciting For' information is missing. You must select the proper Up-line in Solicitor For field.

Why can't I find the Agency my Producer solicits for in the drop-down of their DBA tab?

  • Go to the Producer page for the Up-line Agency Principal.
  • Select the DBA tab
  • Ensure Has Solicitors is selected.

Why isn't the Carrier's EFT page populating?

  • If the Producer is set up as a Solicitor, this is not a carrier requirement and the EFT will not merge with the contracting paperwork even if a voided check is on file for the Producer.

Why isn't a W-9 populating in the contracting package? Or why is a W-9 populating with the Agency's information rather than the Producer's?

  • Check the DBA settings for the Solicitor
  • Verify the correct Up-line is selected from the Solicitor For drop-down.
  • W-9 forms are populated according to each Carrier's unique guidelines.  Some carriers want this form, some do not.  Some want the information populated for the Up-line, and some want it for the Producer. SureLC is coded to know these unique guidelines.
  • If you feel this is populating in error, first verify your Producer's DBA settings then contact your Internal Rep at the Carrier's office to ensure that what you've provided in the past has not changed.
  • If changes are needed in SureLC, email the request to:  support@surancebay.com
