State license information is imported from NIPR (the National Insurance Producer Registry) during new producer & firm registration (from the PDB Report). As state license information is updated over time, SureLC will scan for updates daily (when subscribed to NIPR alerts) or weekly/monthly from public sources based on priorities and expiration dates described below.
- Producers and firms added to your SureLC account as of July 1st, 2023, or later, are automatically subscribed to NIPR alerts and will receive DAILY license updates from NIPR. NIPR alerts can be set up per producer or account-wide (for all producers). Review the information below to learn more about NIPR alerts and how to subscribe producers not enrolled for alerts.
- Producers and firms added to your SureLC account before July 2023 will receive legacy updates from public sources such as the states, SBS, and Sircon weekly or monthly. Updates are completed using the following priorities:
- Florida and Louisiana state licenses are scanned and updated daily. However, FL and LA do not guarantee license information, and updates for these states can take up to one week.
- All other states ' new and active state licenses are updated weekly.
- Inactive/expired licenses will be updated monthly.
To Subscribe a Producer to NIPR Alerts:
Step 1: Go to the Producers page and locate the producer.
Step 2: Select the actions button at the end of the row, and then "Update from NIPR."
Step 3: Review the authorization message (as shown in the example below) and select the desired option.
A. Select "Subscribe for PDB Alerts" when you want to subscribe the producer to NIPR alerts and receive daily updates from NIPR.
B. Select "I Accept, Load PDB Data" to pull the producer's PDB report from NIPR. Please note this is a one-time pull and will not subscribe the producer to NIPR Alerts.
Step 4: Review the subscription cost and select "Request Subscription" to finish. Please note this only subscribes this producer to NIPR alerts.
Producers Subscribed to NIPR Alerts will show the following additional information:
1. A NIPR icon will be shown to the right of the producer's name.
2. Demographic Updates on their Profile tab. Alerts will be shown when additional information information is available from NIPR.
3. State Appointment Information on their Contracts tab.
To Subscribe ALL Producers to NIPR Alerts
Email support@surancebay.com to request that NIPR alerts be set up for your agency. Once enabled, ALL producers will be subscribed to alerts, and a .23 cent per producer per month will be applied to receive the updates.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q1. My producer (or entity) has a state license that I see updated on the state's website, and I have a copy, but SureLC is not updated. I need to request an appointment for this producer in this state, but SureLC isn't showing the state as active.
A1. Depending on the state, NIPR may take 1-5 business days to update. It is possible that SureLC isn't 100% updated according to the state and NIPR. While SureLC will get updated, we recommend that you follow the steps to manually upload producer licenses so you can proceed with contracting the producer in the desired states.
Q2. Do the updates SuranceBay receives from NIPR alerts include appointment status updates?
A2. Yes, however, only 42 states maintain appointment status history, and only if the carrier provides the appointment information to NIPR. For that reason, SuranceBay continues to work with our Carrier Partners to obtain appointment status on each of your producers directly from them.
Q3. What can I do to get appointment status directly from the carriers?
A3. While SuranceBay continues to work with carriers, direct contact with the carriers from you ensures SuranceBay's status accurately. We recommend that you reach out to your carrier partners and include your SuranceBay point of contact in the conversation to move this process along.
Q4. One of my producers renewed his resident license and updated his resident address with his state department of insurance. Will SureLC automatically update all this new information once it gets reported to NIPR?
A4. Yes and no. The license renewal information gets updated, but the residential address will not. After the producer is registered in SureLC for the first time with your agency, SureLC only updates licensing information, not demographic information, from that point on. Any changes to a producer's demographics must be made manually in his or her SureLC profile. To change an address on the producer's NIPR Tab, click the Edit button next to the address, say Yes to the pop-up, make changes as needed, and then click Done. To make changes to the producer's address on the DBA Tab, click on the address that needs to be changed, say Yes to any pop-up, make the desired change, and then click OK.
